What Is Dnatmosphere? How Does It Work?

The Dynamics of Association and Music

When we hear something enough time we tend to become bored of it unless it provides some form of dynamic stimulus as is the case of a song that reminds us of someone we love and we tend to have a different blissful thought of that person every time we hear the song. The association of the song to the person or event is what is keeping the song “fresh” however this also works both ways.

If you break up with said person then the song becomes a catalyst of painful memories. The same memories that once lifted you up, torture you in agony as you realize how much you miss it.

With so much dynamisms in life we are constantly associating things to our music building on and adding on to it as if the music itself was a blank CDR that we burn our memories to (rather associate them to) and each time we hear it we add that day’s collective theme as a new track over the song until the song becomes overwhelming. Over several listens the newness of the song fades because it has already built up so many triggered associations that the song is akin to standing in a crowded elevator listing to everyone talk at once.

The problem and benefit of a good song is that it allows us to as I said in the aforementioned visual, “burn our experiences” to the song itself and playback becomes more like a trigger symphony of our memories, but the stacking effect of associations and even thoughts we have (i.e. when listening to a song and processing all sorts of mental baggage that baggage becomes associated with that song thus a song you used to love and no longer can stand is the result and we have no idea other than saying it was “played out”.

When I listen to a song I like I take careful note of my mood, thought stream status (excited, depressed, irritated etc...) and I play it like I would a meeting with someone. You don’t go in and ask your boss for a raise when he’s in a bad mood do you? Why?

Because 1. He will say no, and will be angry at you for even having the audacity to ask and 2. your throwing an extra problem onto his shoulders will breed quiet resentment and he will even associate his angry mood to you (this is a very important point to make, people transfer associations of their mood onto those people that are around them when they feel it, so like we hear a song and this song embeds the experiences, thoughts, moods and so on we felt or experienced at the time, we do this with moods and people as well!).

One thing that this reality causes a problem in is in self help hypnosis, meditation, or subliminal CD’s (ours are all three sometimes!) because by their very nature you are supposed to listen to them when you need help, are in a place where you need to fix something about your life, often are in a negative place, and so on, so this although the CD may help after just a few listens the aforementioned phenomenon happens and you tire of the very music on the CD due to associating those negative feelings to the music because you were listening to them while thinking about it! It’s sort of a catch 22 isn’t it?

So what is the solution?
